There is a small yet thriving theatre scene in Hobart. The Playhouse Theatre opened in 1926 and is home to the Hobart Repertory Society, who provide regular good quality productions at low prices.

The Theatre Royal opened in 1837, but has changed locations and been renovated since then to become the city's premier theatre.

Large entertainment events are held at the Derwent Entertainment Centre. Hobart pub culture is represented at the popular Knopwood's and Irish Murphy's pubs among others, while live music can be heard at the Trout Bar and the Queen's Head. Jazz also has a good following here and you are likely to find live jazz at Temple Place.
